Wheat Masala Puttu
Equipment
- 1 Puttu maker
Ingredients
- 2 Glass Wheat Puttu flour 250 ml glass
- 1-1.25 Glass Water To sprinkle
- 2 tbsp Coconut To assemble
- 1 tsp Mustard
- 3 no Green Chilli Finely chopped
- 2 inch Ginger Finely chopped
- 1 no Carrot grated
- 1 no Onion Finely chopped
- 4 tbsp Coconut grated
- Few Curry leaves
- Few Coriander leaves
Instructions
Prepare the flour Mixture
- Take the Wheat puttu flour in a bowl. Add salt and sprinkle water little by little while mixing with your fingers.
- The flour should resemble moist crumbs. When pressed in your palm, it should hold shape lightly and crumble easily.
Prepare the Masala
- Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
- Add curry leaves and chopped green chili. Then add onions and sauté until soft and transparent.
- Mix in grated carrot and capsicum. Cook for 2–3 minutes.
- Add turmeric powder and salt. Mix everything well and switch off the flame
Combine the Masala with Flour
- Add the prepared masala mixture to the wheat flour and mix gently until evenly combined.
- The flour should remain crumbly and moist.
Layer the Puttu
- In a puttu maker, first add a layer of grated coconut. I added Puttu flour as I don't prefer too much coconut in my Puttu.
- Then add the masala wheat flour mixture until half.
- Then add two tablespoon of grated coconut.
- Again add the Masala wheat puttu flour and finally with grated coconut. I added coconut only in the middle.
Steam the Puttu
- Steam the puttu for 8–10 minutes or until steam releases fully and the aroma fills the kitchen.
- Carefully remove the puttu from the mold.
INSTRUCTIONS
