Vellai Kondakadalai Sundal

Niranjana Sankaranarayanan
Sundal is a traditional South Indian dish prepared with legumes. It is offered as neivedhyam or prasadh for the Almighty during pooja, especially on Navarathri days. It is very healthy, rich in protein and can be had with coffee or tea in the evening. This can be made with different legumes. As it is rich in fiber, it keeps you fuller for a longer time and thereby aids in weight loss also. We can make Sundal with both black and white chickpeas. This is also called as Kabuli channa or garbanzo beans.
This Sundal can be made in different ways. Here i have ground coconut, green chilli, curry leaves, coriander and mixed with the cooked Channa. Second way is to mix the cooked Channa or Chickpeas with the Sundal powder. It is so easy because if you have it ready, you can just mix it with the Chickpeas. Then the third way is to use red chilli instead of green chillies. Here we will use only shredded coconut and cut the red chillies into two or three and add it with the cooked Chickpeas.
If you love Chickpeas, pl check my Oven roasted Chickpeas/ garbanzo beans recipe too.
