Puzhungal Arisi Kozhukkattai

Puzhungal Arisi Kozhukkattai is a traditional South Indian steamed dish made using parboiled rice. These soft and delicious rice dumplings are easy to prepare with simple ingredients and make a wholesome breakfast, evening snack or light dinner.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 Cup Par boiled rice
  • 1/4 no Coconut Grated
  • 1 tbsp Coconut oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 2 tsp Channa dal
  • 1 tsp Urad dal
  • few Curry leaves
  • 2 no Red chilli
  • 1 glass Water
  • As req Salt

Instructions
 

  • Wash and soak the Par boiled rice for 4 hours.
  • In a mixie jar, add the shredded coconut.
  • Then drain the water from the soaked rice and add it into the mixie jar. .
  • Add required amount of water and grind it to a coarse batter.  Donot grind it too smooth as the dumplings will become hard.
  • In a heavy-bottomed vessel, heat some oil and add mustard seeds. Once they start to crackle, add the channa dal and urad dal, sautéing them until they turn golden brown.
  • Add the curry leaves, red chillies and sauté for another minute.
  • Pour in the water and bring it to a boil.
  • Once the water starts boiling, add the ground batter. Stir continuously to avoid lumps.
  • Continue stirring until the mixture thickens and leaves the sides of the vessel.
  • Transfer the mixture to a plate and let it cool slightly.
  • Once cooled, take portions of the mixture and shape them into rounds or ovals.
  • Place the shaped dumplings in a steamer or rice pan and steam cook them for 15 minutes, starting from when the steam begins to escape.
  • Serve hot with coconut chutney or sambar.
