Its literal meaning is the essence of tamarind blended with other aromatic ingredients. It can be served with hot rice. It is watery. there are different varieties of rasam and I am going to give you the recipe for Paruppu rasam.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/superduperkitchen.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/05\/img_3656.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"i-2148\" alt=\"Image\" src=\"http:\/\/superduperkitchen.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/05\/img_3656.jpg?w=800\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>INGREDIENTS<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Tamarind \u2013 medium lemon size<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Pepper powder &#8211; 3 tsp<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Turmeric powder- A pinch<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Dried Coriander powder \u2013 1 tsp<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Cumin seed powder- 1 tsp<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Jaggery &#8211;\u00a0 1\/2 tsp<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Salt- As required<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><strong>For Seasoning<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Mustard seeds- 1 tsp<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Cumin seeds &#8211; 2 tsp<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Curry leaves- few<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pressure cook the tamarind with little water or it can be cooked in an open vessel with enough water.<\/li>\n<li>Mash the tamarind and extract the juice from it.<\/li>\n<li>In a kadai, add oil, splutter mustard seeds. Once they crack, add the cumin seeds after crushing it in the hand. then add the curry leaves.<\/li>\n<li>Add the extracted tamarind juice.<\/li>\n<li>To this add turmeric powder, jaggery, salt, pepper powder,cumin seed powder, coriander powder.<\/li>\n<li>Allow it to boil.<\/li>\n<li>You can add some curry leaves at this stage so that their flavour will get blended very well.<\/li>\n<li>Immediately close the vessel so that the aroma will be retained.<\/li>\n<li>Serve it with hot rice during winter and rainy days.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/superduperkitchen.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/05\/img_3662.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"i-2149\" alt=\"Image\" src=\"http:\/\/superduperkitchen.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/05\/img_3662.jpg?w=800\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rasam can be called as South Indian soup.
