This will be the lunch for the school and college that amma and paati makes almost once in a week. \u00a0They both make different version of tomato rice. Paati makes\u00a0a thick paste that can be mixed with the rice and amma cooks the rice along with all the spices and tomato. This is my version.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/superduperkitchen.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/05\/img_3510.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"i-2106\" alt=\"Image\" src=\"http:\/\/superduperkitchen.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/05\/img_3510.jpg?w=800\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>INGREDIENTS<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Rice &#8211; 1\/2 cup<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Tomatoes &#8211; 4<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Big onion &#8211; 1<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Green chillies &#8211; 2<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">red chilli powder &#8211; 1 tsp<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Turmeric powder &#8211; A pinch<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Garam masala powder &#8211; 1\/2 tsp<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><strong>For Seasoning\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Oil &#8211; 2 tbsp<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Mustard seeds &#8211; 1 tsp<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Urad dhal &#8211; 1 tsp<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Channa dhal &#8211; 1 tsp<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Coriander leaves &#8211; To garnish<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pressure cook the rice with little salt and 1 tsp oil.<\/li>\n<li>Spread the rice on a plate to cool down.<\/li>\n<li>Slice the onions, green chillies, coriander, tomatoes and keep aside.<\/li>\n<li>In a kadai, heat oil and splutter mustard seeds, urad dhal, channa dhal.<\/li>\n<li>Then add the onions and saute till golden brown.<\/li>\n<li>Add all the spice powders alongwith the salt.<\/li>\n<li>Mix well till tomato turns to a paste. Or you can grind the tomato and add the tomato puree.<\/li>\n<li>Add little water if necessary.<\/li>\n<li>Saute till the raw smell goes off.<\/li>\n<li>Add the coriander leaves.<\/li>\n<li>Mix the rice with the paste.<\/li>\n<li>Your tomato rice is ready to serve<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/superduperkitchen.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/05\/img_3509.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"i-2105\" alt=\"Image\" src=\"http:\/\/superduperkitchen.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/05\/img_3509.jpg?w=800\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tomato rice is a tangy and spice rice that suits for packing in the lunch ox.
