Apple raita / Yoghurt Dip with Apple

Apple Raita is a versatile and flavourful Indian side dish that pairs exceptionally well with pulao, biriyani, and stuffed parathas. This refreshing dish combines the crisp sweetness of apples with the creamy richness of curd, and a blend of spices, making it a perfect accompaniment to a hearty meal.

The basic ingredients for Apple Raita include:

  • Apples: Choose firm, crisp apples for the best texture and flavor. Apples add a sweet crunch that balances well with the tanginess of the curd.
  • Curd (Yogurt): Use thick, fresh curd to ensure the raita remains creamy and does not become watery. Avoid using sour curd, as it can alter the taste of the raita.
  • Vegetables: Common additions include finely chopped cucumber and grated carrots, which add extra crunch and freshness.
  • Spices: Adjust the spice level according to your preference. Red chili powder adds heat, but you can substitute it with pepper powder or skip it entirely for a milder flavor. Cumin powder and chaat masala can be added for an extra layer of flavour.

Variations

Apple Raita can be customized in several ways:

  • Spice Level: If you prefer a spicier raita, increase the amount of red chili powder or add a dash of black pepper.
  • Sweetness: For a sweeter raita, add a small amount of honey or a pinch of sugar.
  • Herbs: Fresh herbs like mint or coriander can be added for an extra burst of freshness.

Serving Suggestions

Apple Raita is a versatile dish that enhances the flavor profile of many Indian meals. It is especially delightful when served with:

  • Pulao: The cool and creamy raita contrasts beautifully with the spiced rice.
  • Biriyani: Apple Raita offers a refreshing counterpoint to the rich, flavorful biriyani.
  • Stuffed Parathas: It acts as a cooling accompaniment to the savory stuffed parathas.

Apple Raita not only adds a refreshing touch to your meal but also brings a delightful combination of textures and flavors, making it a cherished part of any Indian feast.

Apple Raitha / Yoghurt Dip with Apple

Niranjana Sankaranarayanan
Apple raitha is a delicious Indian side dish that is served along wtih pulao and biriyani. Adding raw vegetables and fresh fruits into curd along with the spices makes it not only tasty but also filling too. This goes best with pulao, biriyani and stuffed parathas. This raitha can be made with some variations too. Instead of red chilli powder, you can add pepper powder or altogether you can skip the spiciness. Always choose thick and fresh curd to make this raitha. Later it will become watery and sour. And sour curd will not suit for this raitha.

  1. Apple raita sounds refreshing and tasty. It’s a great condiment to have with the Indian thali. I make apple raita too but add rai (mustard) to it.

  2. Apple raita looks very inviting!! Must be a lovely combo with a spicy puloa! Love the addition of cinnamon along with red chili and salt!

  3. Raitas are my favorite and will give this a try. You can even serve it as a light evening snack, I am assuming. That’s what I do with most of my raitas, eat them as a snack when I get those hunger pangs at an odd hour of the day.
