
Paruppu usili
Paruppu usili is a very popular brahmin recipe which is ground, steamed and mixed with kothavarangai, beans, vazhaipoo and ammini kozhakkattai. It is rich in protein and is a better substitute for coconut green chilli mixture that we use for making poriyal or upperi. Its so easy to make. Though i have made it many times, missed to post this recipe and finally doing it. Paruppu usili pairs with mor kuzhambu, vatha kuzhambu, etc., when mixed with vegetables.
The lentils are soaked in water, grind it to a coarse paste. And then, we can either steam cook , crumble it and mixed with vegetables or amminbi kozhukkattai. Or we can grind it, crumble and roast it in oil until you get a nice aroma and the raw smell goes off. This is then mixed with vegetables of your choice or ammini kozhukkattai.

- Pressure cooker or steamer

Ingredients
INGREDIENTS
- 1/2 cup Channa dhal
- 1 cup Toor dhal
- 2 Nos Guntur chilli
- 2 Nos Bedigi chilli
- As req Salt
- A pinch Asafoetida
Instructions
- Wash and soak all the ingredients for one and a half hour.
- Drain the water completely.
- Grind the dhal and chilli.
- Add salt and asafoetida. Mix well.
- Now make dumplings and steam cook it.
- Paruppu usili kozhakkattai is ready.
- After crumbling it, we can mix it with ammini kozhakkattai, vazhaipoo, beans and cluster beans.

Wonderful idea! I never used this for making kozhukattai.
Whenever we make, ammi9ni kozhakkattai, we mix it with paruppu usili. It tastes awesome.
