Aadi perukku is a unique South Indian and specially a Tamil festival celebrated on the 18th day of the Tamil month of Adi. Tamil month Aadi, marks the beginning of monsoon in Tamilnadu. During this month, water level rises in rivers due to monsoon.To show our gratitude to the Nature and to thank the mother Cauvery river, we celebrate this festival. It is an important festival in the life of a farmer. On the eighteenth day of the Tamil month Aadi, we celebrate Aadi perukku. There is a mythological belief that whatever we do on this auspicious day will return to us manifold.
Significance of Aadi Perukku
Aadi is the Tamil month of observances that is dedicated to Water forces and other Natural forces. We offer prayers to thank the Goddesses during Aadi month. It is also to seek protection from the ominous aspects. Aadi month is very auspicious for making connections with the Divine power. The festival of Aadi Perukku has been practised and patronised since the time of the rule of the Kings.
