Gokulashtami / Krishna jayanthi

Gokulashtami / Krishna Jayanthi marks the birth of Lord Krishna. It falls on the 8th day after Avani Avittam. On this day, we draw the small footprints from the entrance to the Pooja room. It denotes the entry of Lord Krishna and to welcome Him. Many people draw the footprints like number 8 or they will fold their wrist and dip it in the batter and will keep the impression. But always I love the way my mom draw it. Infact many people admire the way she draw the footprints. Here is one of the pic where my mom has drawn the footprints and I am a kid posing for the photo with my grandpa…

In many places people dress up their kids as Lord Krishna and Radha. Uri adi is carried out in many places. Butter is the favourite food for Lord Krishna. So people offer Milk, Curd, Butter, Ghee, Vella seedai, Uppu seedai and other neivedhyams to the God.
